The Cup of Tea That Never Gets Finished

Why we keep putting ourselves at the bottom of the list.

A quiet moment, if you have one

From the Kitchen · 3 minute read

Most mornings begin in exactly the same way.

The kettle clicks.

The mug is reached for.

Tea bag in.

Water poured and a splash of milk.

For a brief moment, everything feels still.

Then life begins.

Someone needs help finding a PE kit.

A lunchbox is still sitting on the kitchen counter.

The dog wants to go out.

An email catches my eye.

The phone pings.

The dishwasher needs emptying.

One thing leads to another.

By the time I return to my tea, it has gone cold.

Again.

For years, I thought it was just one of those little things that came with motherhood and running a business.

Until I realised it wasn't really about the tea at all.

Somewhere along the way, I'd become very good at finishing everyone else's priorities.

But not always my own.

Ideas stayed in notebooks.

Walks were postponed.

Books gathered dust.

Creative projects waited for "the right time."

The cup of tea was simply a quiet reminder of a much bigger pattern.

There's a difference between being busy and being present.

One fills the diary.

The other fills the soul.

I think many of us spend so much time responding to life that we rarely pause long enough to ask ourselves what we actually need.

Not next month.

Not when things calm down.

Today.

That's one of the reasons Luce & Earth exists.

Not to encourage women to escape their lives.

But to create moments where they can return to themselves.

To hear their own thoughts again.

To remember the ideas that have been waiting patiently beneath the noise.

Sometimes clarity doesn't arrive because we've worked harder.

Sometimes it arrives because, for the first time in a long while, we sat down and actually finished the cup of tea.

A Thought to Carry With You

What have you been putting down halfway through... that quietly deserves your attention again?

Until next Monday...

May you find a little more light, a little more space, and a moment to finish your cup of tea.
