The Space Between Seasons

Why we don't need to rush every chapter of our lives.
Summer Reflections · 5 minute read
There’s something I’ve always loved about the changing seasons.
Not because one is better than another, but because each one quietly gives us permission to live differently.
Spring invites us to begin.
Summer encourages us to grow.
Autumn reminds us to gather what matters.
Winter gently asks us to rest.
And yet, somewhere along the way, many of us stopped living like nature and started expecting ourselves to operate at full speed all year round.
We keep pushing through.
We tell ourselves we'll slow down next month.
We'll think about that idea after the school holidays.
We'll look after ourselves once work settles down.
We'll finally start that project when life feels less busy.
But life has a funny way of never becoming less busy.
Over the past few weeks, I've spent more time in the garden than usual.
Watching plants respond to sunshine, rain, richer soil and a little extra space has reminded me that growth has never been something we can force.
Nature doesn't hurry.
It doesn't compare itself to the plants next door.
It doesn't apologise for needing a season of rest before it flowers again.
It simply grows when the conditions are right.
I wonder what would happen if we allowed ourselves the same kindness.
As September begins to appear on the horizon, I always notice a shift.
The long evenings begin to soften.
The air changes almost imperceptibly.
Children return to school carrying fresh bookbags and new possibilities.
There’s something about September that feels like a quieter New Year.
Not loud resolutions.
Just a gentle invitation to begin again.
Perhaps that's why I've always loved it.
It feels like a season that whispers after a rest, rather than shouts.
A season for asking ourselves...
What do I want this next chapter to feel like?
Not just...
What do I need to get done?
That question has shaped so much of what Luce & Earth is becoming.
It was never created because I believed women needed another thing to fit into an already overflowing calendar.
It was created because I know how easy it is to become so busy looking after everything else that we stop hearing ourselves think.
Sometimes the greatest gift isn't another strategy or another to-do list.
Sometimes it's simply having the space to notice what's been quietly waiting for our attention all along.
September feels like the perfect time for that.
Not because it's magical.
But because nature reminds us that every season has its purpose.
Some seasons are for planting.
Some are for growing.
Some are for harvesting.
And some are simply for preparing the ground for what's to come.
There is wisdom in every one of them.
A Thought to Carry With You
As this season begins to change, perhaps don't ask yourself what you need to achieve next.
Instead, ask yourself:
What season am I in right now... and what does it need from me?
Until next Monday...
May this week bring you a little more light, a little more space, and the confidence to keep growing.

Ground & Grow is a small weekend retreat designed for women who want to step away from the noise, reconnect with their ideas and return home with greater clarity and confidence.
